Home inspiration!

I have been starting to think about how I am going to style and design my home and colour palettes, and then came to the conclusion I have too high a price tag!
I have instead, been finding low priced items such as a sofa- which would be the most expensive item, deciding a budget, finding the perfect sofa in a nice, neutral colour and building the room around it. The thing with have all the big, expensive items neutral, is if I decide I want a change up, to decorate seasonally or if something breaks/gets ruined, I can swap it out easily without killing my bank account.
To begin building a room, I'll make an inspirational board on powerpoint, share it on Pinterest and that makes my life so much easier, working out exactly what I need to buy , stops me being duplicates and things I really could do without.
Here is a current plan for my living area! I found this awesome, fabric sofa in a beautiful cream colour, I adore this rich chocolate colour and worked with those two for the basis of the room.

So the sofa is called a "SAXTON" and it is from DFS sofa's. I love how the pillows of it are a different shape to how you would normally see, and the company also have matching armchairs which makes life a lot easier to match products! It also allowed suggestions for pillows and accessories.
I thought the design on the pillow gave a nice accent as everything else is rather pattern and texture less, more texture was added with the fluffy, teddy bear rug and the crumpled look on the lamp.
I thought the different height levels made the area look appealing and fab. I did this by looking for a low set coffee table, medium to high heigh on the sofa, tray tables that are shorter than the arm on the sofa and chair but taller than the coffee table. The decor on the coffee table is an easy way to achieve this also; just choose some long candles, or stacked books, plants and so on.
I am tempted to find some big, long bolster cushions to go across the sofa with two of the zebra striped cushions in front to add dimension and the feeling of cosy. I think a big, thick throw , as pictured, was a good addition to help this.
